  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

wish i could've been there! it looks like so much fun. :)

Wheee! Claire, the only thing that gets me through winter is your Robert Burns party. As always, your and your parents' hospitality and general awesomeness really put me in a good place. I think I just might survive the month of February.

Thanks for being such a fantastic friend. You're definitely the coolest person I know.

If I were a boxer, I'd like to be known as "the Wee Dram."

Ouch! Sorry about your toe. And I'm terribly sad that I didn't get to hear George's brogue. :)

Claire! You animal! Sorry to hear about your toe. I guess it was indeed a good time... you can kind of tell by the flush on everyone's cheeks. :)

Clairabelle! Your poor, poor toe! Which one is it? I know you really can't do anything for a broken toe. Hope the party was worth it. Sounds like it! And the photos are great.

I'd like to hear more!

Hope your toe heals quickly.

I think my toe must have just been bruised, because it's no longer purple and healing quite quickly. Wish you ladies who weren't there were. It was a good time.

Thanks for all the comments. I've been a crazy woman with school and work and haven't been able to reply as I wanted to.

Hey, what's a little broken toe? Sounds like you had tons of fun! Hope you're not in too much discomfort.
